"From historic districts near downtown to the wave of new construction across the Tennessee Valley — Lane Ragsdale and Lighthouse bring a Certified Master Inspector's eye and clear, color-coded reports to every home in Huntsville and the greater metro."
Huntsville is Alabama's largest city and one of the fastest-growing metros in the country — the "Rocket City," home to NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center, Redstone Arsenal, and Cummings Research Park. Its explosive growth has fueled a housing boom, from historic districts like Twickenham and Old Town near downtown to sprawling new subdivisions across Madison County and the surrounding area. Lighthouse Home & Property Inspection Services — owned and operated by Lane Ragsdale, a Certified Master Inspector (CMI®) licensed in both Alabama and Tennessee — is based just north in Fayetteville and inspects properties throughout Huntsville and the greater metro.
From century-old homes near the downtown squares to the wave of new construction spreading across the Tennessee Valley, Huntsville offers some of the most varied housing in the region. Lane knows the area well — the established neighborhoods, the booming new builds, and the quirks that come with a market growing this fast — and brings that local familiarity to every inspection.
What sets Lighthouse apart is the depth of training behind every inspection. As a Certified Master Inspector (CMI®) — the profession's most respected designation — and an InterNACHI®-certified professional, Lane brings a discipline and attention to detail that shows in every report. He knows how homes in the Tennessee Valley are built, where problems tend to hide, and what matters most to a buyer — and because he handles every inspection personally, you get his full experience on your home, every time.
Buying or selling a home in the Huntsville area comes with regional challenges an experienced inspector knows to watch for. The Tennessee Valley's hot, humid summers and heavy storms test roofs, gutters, grading, and drainage year after year, while damp crawlspaces and basements create the conditions where moisture and mold take hold. Much of North Alabama also sits in a higher-radon region, and the area's mix of historic homes and fast-built new construction means each property carries its own concerns — from aging wiring and worn roofs to the shortcuts that can slip into a home built in a hurry.
That's exactly why Huntsville-area homeowners choose Lighthouse. You get a Certified Master Inspector (CMI®) licensed in Alabama and Tennessee, a clear, color-coded report with photos that separates major concerns from minor ones, and an inspector who personally walks the home with you and gives honest, practical advice. Lighthouse also offers mold and air-quality testing, radon testing, thermal imaging, and sewer-scope inspections — everything you need through a single point of contact. Call or text Lane at 931-307-1524 to schedule your Huntsville inspection.

"Lane Ragsdale gave us peace of mind while we were buying a new home from 2,000 miles away while the builder was nearing completion. The builder, who has operated in the Huntsville area for decades, remarked that Lane was the most thorough inspector he had seen and that Lane spent twice as long on the home than any other inspector. Lane's detailed report included photos, assessment of defects (from merely cosmetic to health-and-safety-risks), and diagrams that demonstrated correct and incorrect home functions. The report helped communicate with the builder and verify repairs when I returned for the new home presentation. At my request, Lane reinspected the home on the weekend before we signed closing documents (still 2,000 miles away); his reinspection addressed several items he had flagged and several items I had since added. I would hire him again in a heartbeat."

Based just north in Fayetteville, TN, Lighthouse Home & Property Inspection Services covers Huntsville and the greater metro — from the historic downtown districts to the fast-growing suburbs across Madison and Limestone counties.
Answers to the most common questions Huntsville-area homeowners ask before scheduling a home inspection.
A Lighthouse home inspection evaluates the major systems and components of the property, including the roof, foundation, structure, attic, insulation, plumbing, electrical, HVAC, built-in appliances, siding, and grounds as they pertain to the home.
We document what we find with photos and explain the findings in plain language using a color-coded report, so you can quickly understand what matters most and prioritize any issues before making your decision.
For an average home, plan for about 4 hours on-site, depending on the size, age, and condition of the property. Lane never rushes — he takes the time the home needs.
You are not required to be present for the entire inspection. Our inspections typically take approximately four hours, and our reports are clearly organized, color-coded, and written in plain language to help you understand the findings.
Because inspections require careful concentration, interruptions and distractions can sometimes extend the inspection time or make it more difficult for the inspector to remain focused on the property.
Clients are always welcome to attend; however, we generally recommend arriving approximately 3½ hours after the scheduled start time. This allows the inspector to complete most of the inspection without interruption and provides an opportunity to review the major findings with you once the inspection is completed.
After you receive and review your report, we are also happy to answer any questions and discuss the findings with you.
Yes. These are ancillary services available for an additional fee and should be requested when scheduling the inspection.
Lighthouse provides mold inspections and indoor air-quality testing (IAC2 Certified), radon testing, and infrared thermal-imaging scans that can help identify conditions such as hidden moisture, electrical hot spots, and insulation gaps.
Sewer-scope inspections, pool & spa inspections, and outbuilding inspections are also available.
Quickly — often within a day. You'll receive a clear, color-coded report with photos that separates major concerns from minor ones, so you're never left waiting when you have decisions and deadlines.
The fastest way is to call or text Lane directly at 931-307-1524, or use the form on our contact page. We'll find a time that fits your closing timeline and get your inspection on the calendar.
